Livestock
There's more to livestock than grass and manure! We have beef cows and sheep who we rear to the highest welfare standards, sustainably and ethically on a commercial scale.
Welfare
We will meet the cattle either in the field or the barn and talk about how we keep them healthy and why it's important. Spot their shiny coats and pricked ears. We talk about how we can handle these huge animals safely and the giant set of scales we use to weigh them.
Wool
We will meet the sheep and talk about where wool comes from and why we have to shear them every year. The group will have the chance to handle a fleece and even spin it into yarn.
Diet
What do we feed our cows and why. The group will have a chance to see the ingredients and then feed them to the cattle. We make a model of a cow digestive system and talk about cow farts! We walk the cattle pasture and see how their manure can benefit the environment.
